Catching the school bus

Bus travel is a great way to safely get to and from school. For students travelling on buses outside the Opal network, school bus passes are issued by individual operators following an application being lodged for a Travel Pass through the Transport for NSW website.

Driving and parking

The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.

When driving and parking near our school, please:

• ensure you park safely in school zones
• follow speed signs
• do not make U-turns or 3-point turns outside the school.

Kiss and Ride Zone

For your convenience and your child's safety, Harrington Public School has a Kiss and Ride Zone in High Street.

Designed for quick entry and exit, the zone minimises congestion and risk to students.

The zone operates under the same conditions as no parking zones, which means you may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes. You're required to remain in or within 3 metres of your vehicle. The zone operates as a Kiss and Ride zone 8.00am-9.30am and 2.30pm-4.00pm school days only. It is normal parking at all other times.

Cycling, skating, scooting and walking to school

Riding to and from school is a fun way for children to stay active. The department encourages students to safely ride to school if parents/carers consider it safe.

The safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. We kindly ask that before allowing your child to ride to school you please take a moment to talk with them about the importance of road safety and responsible cycling, especially when riding near roads, driveways, intersections and around pedestrians.

Transport for NSW recommendations for riding include:

• Children under 8 years old should always be supervised and should ride away from busy roads and in safe places such as parks and backyards.
• Children under 10 years old should be closely supervised while riding. Parents and carers should ride along with them on the footpath.
• Children under 16 can continue to ride on the footpath.
