Kindergarten
Starting primary school is a big step. School readiness is more than being able to read, write and do basic maths. Rather, it’s as much about developing a child’s:
- social and emotional skills to get along with others
- physical capabilities, like improving hand/eye coordination, and performing more complex craft activities
- communication and cognitive abilities to follow instructions and express their needs.
Research and evidence suggest that a successful transition to primary school helps improve children’s educational and social outcomes.
We are always excited to welcome our Kindergarten students to Harrington Public School. As part of our School Readiness Program, we have a number of events to support children transitioning to school.
Our Transition Program
Our program highlights the importance of school readiness with the opportunity to showcase the school's extra-curricular activities and explore the range of resources we have available for our students.
Participating in our Transition Program also provides children the opportunity to:
- become familiar to their school surrounds and routines
- make new friends and expand their social interaction skills
- feel more confident about the step up to primary school.
